I recently had the honour of being featured in AMA Insider Magazine in their Summer 2025 issue, in an article titled “The Secret to Small-Business Success.” The piece highlighted my journey as the founder of Invicta Performance and explored how I built a health clinic grounded in purpose, clarity, and community connection.(Original article: amainsider.ama.ab.ca/summer-2025/the-secret-to-small-business-success)

Being recognized by AMA Insider was more than just a moment of pride. It made me reflect deeply on what inspired me to start Invicta Performance, what has allowed us to grow, and what truly matters in small-business success — especially in the healthcare world.

Why I Started Invicta Performance

When I graduated as a chiropractor with a Master’s in Sports Medicine, I realized the traditional clinic model didn’t fully align with the way I wanted to serve people. I envisioned a space where movement, mental wellbeing, evidence-based care, and a welcoming environment worked together to help patients feel empowered, not intimidated.

In the AMA article, I spoke about starting Invicta Performance not just as a business, but as a mission — to create a clinic in Edmonton where people feel heard, understood, and motivated to take control of their health.

This purpose remains the foundation of everything we do.

What AMA Highlighted About My Journey

The AMA Insider feature touched on several key aspects of how Invicta Performance grew from an idea into a multidisciplinary clinic:

1. A Clear Mission

Success begins with knowing why you started. For me, that meant prioritizing accessibility, evidence-informed practice, and a positive patient experience.

2. Building a Team with Shared Values

In the early months, many team members came from my own network — people who believed in the vision and wanted to contribute to a healthier community.AMA emphasized how this value-driven approach helped build a strong clinic culture.

3. Creating a Space That Feels Like Home

A welcoming, modern, inclusive environment is part of the treatment.AMA noted that Invicta Performance was designed intentionally to ensure patients feel safe, respected, and motivated when they walk through the door.

4. Sustainable Growth, Not Rushed Expansion

What started with two practitioners eventually grew into a full multidisciplinary team with chiropractic, physiotherapy, massage therapy, acupuncture, and psychology — now across multiple Edmonton locations.AMA highlighted that this growth came from strategic planning and purpose, not pressure.

Lessons I Shared With AMA About Small-Business Success

During my interview, I reflected on what actually drives long-term success as a clinic owner:

• Lead with purpose

Your mission guides every decision. When your “why” is strong, growth becomes more natural and more meaningful.

• Build relationships, not transactions

Patients, staff, and the community thrive when care is personal and genuine.

• Invest in people

The right team and the right culture determine the quality of care far more than equipment or square footage.

• Serve the community you belong to

Healthcare should be accessible and inclusive. My goal has always been to make Invicta a safe, uplifting space for everyone.

What This Feature Means to Me

Being featured in AMA Insider is a reminder that small-business success is not about luck or shortcuts. It’s about integrity, purpose, and consistently showing up for the people you serve.

I’m proud of what Invicta Performance has become, and I’m even more excited about where we’re headed — expanding services, deepening community outreach, and continuing to deliver movement-focused, patient-centered care for Edmonton and beyond.
